  1. 1.13.1

    ClientLatest

    Devana Client 1.13.1

The Devana app is now available for 🍎 macOS and 🐧 Linux! Download it here.

We are also working on making it available on the Microsoft Store.

    New in themes

    • We added new solid-colour themes without gradients.
    • We added an option to turn off the coloured background behind the text in themes with gradients.
    • New default theme in Devana's colours 💚
    • Simplified and improved theme customisation

Quick reactions in the message menu

The message menu (right-click or long press) starts with a row of your 6 most-used emoticons for reacting with one click. Until enough of them have been collected, it shows 👍 ❤️ 😂 😮 😢 🎉.

    New app icon

The app has a new icon in the brand colour – on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and Linux.

    Other improvements and fixes

    • On Polfan, the chat starts in Polish by default, even when the browser has English set as the first language. The language selected in your account still takes priority.
    • We fixed a bug that could stop some lists in the app from refreshing.
    • mobileThe phrase and autoreplace windows on Android have a fixed width instead of shrinking to the size of the button.
    • mobileDelete buttons are back in the phrase and autoreplace tables.
    • mobileWe hid the message menu in its top-right corner – on mobile it was not useful.
  2. 1.13.0

    Client

    Devana Client 1.13.0

This is the biggest update to how the app looks and how you write messages in a long time: markdown formatting, new emoticons, and cleanup of rough edges across the interface!

    Markdown in messages

We've added support for markdown, the format you know from other messengers:

    • **bold**, *italic*, ~~strikethrough~~ – these can be combined and nested,
    • `inline code` and code blocks (three backticks) – text in them displays exactly as you typed it, without mentions or emoticons,
    • > quotes and bulleted and numbered lists,
    • ||spoiler|| – hidden until someone clicks it -> ,
    • [text](https://address) – links with custom text.

Ctrl/Cmd+B and Ctrl/Cmd+I, Ctrl+U bold, italicize, and underline the selected text. Older tags (<b>, <i>, <u>, colour <#ff0000>) work as before, and earlier messages look the same.

A backslash before a character (e.g. *) displays it without formatting.

    Better links and trusted domains

    • Links to spaces and rooms will now show their names.
    • Links to external domains will show a warning with an option to add the domain to your trusted ones.

Emoticons: frequently used, new search and refreshed picker

    • The emoticon picker starts with a "Frequently used" section, and when you hover over a message in modern rooms, you get the three most frequently used emoticons as quick reactions.
    • Emoticon and emoji suggestions in the editor understand :name, :name: and <name, and suggest both kinds at once.
    • In community spaces, the picker lets you select multiple emoticons at once.

    New start screen

If you don't have any spaces yet, you'll see the refreshed "Get started" screen: create a space (community, friends), join with an invite, or browse available communities.

  3. 0.9.0

    Server

    Devana Server 0.9.0

    Przegląd bezpieczeństwa i wydajności

We went through the server for security and performance and made 15 fixes. One of them you may notice: commands sent in bulk, one after another, are now slowed down by the server – this protects against spam and abuse. The rest works in the background: the server puts less load on itself under heavy traffic, and presence status changes are sent in batches instead of one by one.

    Inne usprawnienia i poprawki

  4. Server / LucyBot

    Server / LucyBot

    Devana Server / LucyBot

    • Załączniki i emotikony: naprawiono błąd znikających załączników i emotikon.
  5. 1.10.0

    Client

    Devana Client 1.10.0

Themes – come on, paint your chat

In Settings → Appearance and accessibility there are new themes: Północ, Mgławica, Żar, Puszcza, Świt and Szron. If none of these compositions suits you, choose the "Własny" option and let your imagination run wild. Check out the Niespodzianka! button if you don't want to pick yourselves!

Ideally, you can share a theme by copying its code and sending it to someone else.

Additionally, we added "Frosted glass effect in windows and menus" for those who like elements to shine through nicely.

Highlighted role and status groups in the user list

The list of people in a room is now divided into groups: "Dostępni", "W zasięgu" and "Niedostępni", so you always know what you're looking at.

Roles can now be highlighted separately. In the role settings (Space settings → Roles) there is a new option "Wyświetlaj osobno na liście użytkowników", which lets available role holders form their own group at the top of the list.

    Control over role mentions

No more situations where anyone can trigger \@everyone. Each role now has a "Pozwól każdemu na oznaczanie" toggle. When it is off, only people with the new "Oznaczanie dowolnych ról" permission can mention the role.

    Other improvements and fixes

    • mobileThe message menu now opens while the on-screen keyboard is open.
    • mobileLeaving a room no longer unexpectedly takes you to another place in the app.
    • desktopWe fixed copying text.
    • Emoticons can now be typed in CAPITAL LETTERS.
    • We improved how selection lists are displayed in settings.
    • Settings now save immediately and no longer overwrite each other – changing one option won't undo another one you changed a moment earlier.
    • serverWe fixed an annoying push notification bug: some people were getting notifications for every message despite the "Tylko wzmianki" setting, and some were notified about rooms they had left long ago. The cause was duplicated, invisible topic subscriptions – they have been cleaned up.
    • serverClearer results for text commands (help, info, whyban).
    • desktopA new title bar, matched to the selected theme, with "Wstecz" and "Dalej" buttons for easy navigation.
  6. 0.8.0

    Server

    Devana Server 0.8.0

We added two new commands and updated how three existing text commands work.

/whyban - new command; explains why a given user can't join or write in a room or space, and what can be done about it.

/info - for users with ban permissions, shows a list of linked accounts and indicates the likelihood that it's the same person.

/ban - added the option to issue a permanent ban by using * (asterisk) as the duration. Fixed bugs with parsing the duration and reason.

/cvid - technical command for developers. Allows converting IDs between two formats.

We also fixed 4 bugs under the hood that affected server stability.

  7. 1.9.6

    Client

    Devana Client 1.9.6

Notification sounds for new messages and mentions

In Settings, in the Notifications tab, we added a new option "Play a sound for every private message and mention". With it, you will hear a notification even when you are actively using the app and the room is open (option enabled by default for Polfan users).

Classic layout - simplified user list

The list of people present (in the classic layout, BETA) now shows only people who are online - available.

    New in the message editor

We added a new section in settings: "Message editor", with new options:

    • "Cycle user mentions with TAB": you can now press TAB repeatedly to smoothly switch between online people whose nicknames start with the same letter.
    • "Restore last sent message": Have you ever sent a message with a typo? Now just press the up arrow in an empty text field to instantly restore the content of your last sent message!

    Classic room improvements

    • You can now enlarge the photos you send by clicking their preview (just like in modern rooms).
    • We added the option to completely hide message send times (Settings -> Appearance and accessibility -> Chat window).

    Other improvements and fixes:

    • mobileWe fixed an annoying issue where the keyboard hid when you missed the message send button.
    • mobileWe improved the look of highlighted messages (yellow background) in classic rooms on mobile devices by removing the unsightly white gaps at the edges.
    • mobileWe fixed a visual bug where the background of tags stretched when a mention and an emoticon were on the same line.
    • We improved the look of tags: tags for people and roles you don't have are now more subtle. Clicking a mention now opens the user menu, and clicking a role tag shows the list of people who have that role.
    • We optimized the auto-replace text feature, which now reacts precisely only to single, detected words.
  8. 1.9.4 / 0.7.2

    Client / Server

    Devana Client 1.9.4 / Devana Server 0.7.2

    Reacting to messages

From now on you can react to a message by adding an emoticon or emoji to it, instead of writing a separate reply - so convenient and time-saving! :D

Reactions appear under the message in modern rooms, or next to it in classic ones. Hover over a reaction to see the list of people who used it.

Note: reactions are unavailable in rooms with ephemeral history and may be limited for older messages in rooms with history available for a set time.

    Polls in messages

We've also added the ability to create polls - with a question, any number of answers (each with its own icon), and single-choice or multiple-choice voting. Poll results are visible live as bars.

Note: polls are unavailable in rooms with ephemeral history and may be limited for older messages in rooms with history available for a set time.

YouTube preview and new display options

YouTube video links pasted into messages will now display a video player. We've also added new switches in the settings, in the "Appearance" tab, so you can adjust the app to your needs even better. The new options are:

    • turning attachment previews on/off,
    • turning the YouTube player on/off,
    • turning picture emoticons on/off,
    • scaling the size of picture emoticons - with a slider to set the maximum size.

    Other improvements and fixes:

    • We fixed a black screen that sometimes appeared after logging out.
    • We fixed emoticons disappearing from the list and a permissions error when loading them.
    • We restored the correct color of the dot indicating unread activity.
    • We improved loading of older message history (pagination), which in some situations did not work correctly.
  9. 1.9.2

    Client

    Devana Client 1.9.2

New user availability status: "Within reach

Instead of the "Unavailable" status, we'll now show a new "Within reach" status on the user's dot if we detect that they can receive a notification about a new message. This way, we'll know that when you message them, they'll get notified about new messages.

We've also fixed a few bugs:

    • desktopwe improved multi-session support, newly added accounts now sync between windows,
    • we fixed a bug that caused a white screen when switching accounts,
    • we fixed support for Polfan users,
    • we made fixes and optimizations on the server side.
  10. 1.9.0

    Client

    Devana Client 1.9.0

    New user profiles

Left-clicking a user in the list now opens their brand-new profile! You'll find all the information you had before (nickname, avatar, roles), plus some great additions that were missing until now: a profile description, the join date, and your shared spaces.

Tip: the old context menu hasn't gone anywhere. It's still available when you right-click.

    Bot avatars in rooms!

You can now use the new "setbotavatar" action in the configuration script to give a bot a dedicated avatar in a specific room. Together with the existing option to set a custom signature, this gives you full freedom to personalise your bots.

A separate avatar in each space

Want to show up differently in different places? Now you can! Every user can set an independent avatar in a chosen space, which replaces their main one. The feature is currently available to everyone (its availability may change in the future), so feel free to try it out!
